Our capoeira teachers have decades of experience between them. Professors Girafa and Tinta Forte are among the oldest students of Mestra Marisa Cordeiro and have taught throughout the United States and abroad. They teach with safety as a priority and are American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certified. Our capoeira instructors have taken the Training For Mandated Reporters. Working with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Child Abuse Hotline, this course helps all Illinois Mandated Reporters understand their critical role in protecting children by recognizing and reporting child abuse.
PROFESSOR TINTA FORTE
Professor Tinta Forte has been training capoeira since 1999. Although the majority of his training has been in Chicago, he has also traveled for extensive periods of time in Brazil, training at a variety of Cordão de Ouro Academies.
He received his ‘Professor’ capoeira cord in 2010 and was teaching in Albuquerque, New Mexico before returning to Chicago. Tinta established RISE Training in 2017.
Professor Girafa has been training with Gingarte Capoeira since 1998 and teaching since 2002. He is also teaching capoeira through after-school programs at the University of Chicago Lab Schools and Ashburn Lutheran School. Girafa has implemented and led programs for Children’s Home + Aid and After School Matters, which are two organizations offering enrichment programs for inner-city youth. He has played pivotal roles as the group’s emcee, sound engineer, and stage manager as well.
